Hi, I’m Nathan, founder of KinBox.
How it started
Like most people, I always assumed “we’re sorted” because there was a will somewhere and most bills were on direct debit. Then I watched people I love try to sort out a family member’s affairs after they died.
The grief was heavy enough. But on top of that they had to:
-
Guess passwords and PINs
-
Call banks they didn’t even know existed
-
Hunt for super accounts, insurance policies and rate notices
-
Dig through drawers, folders, email accounts and old laptops
Everyone was doing their best, but it felt like a giant scavenger hunt at the worst possible time.
That stuck with me.
The first KinBox
I kept thinking: “This would all be so much easier if everything lived in one place, with clear instructions for the person left holding the folder.”
So I did what any slightly obsessive problem-solver would do:
-
I bought a box and a stack of files
-
Wrote checklists for every part of life – money, property, health, digital, family
-
Tested it with my own household and with relatives
It turned into a simple, very un-glamorous system that made people say:
“If anything happened, I’d actually know where to start.”
That was the first KinBox. Once I saw how much stress it removed, it felt wrong to keep it to myself.
What KinBox is
KinBox is an Australian-designed next-of-kin organising system.
It helps you:
-
Put all the important details and documents in one place
-
Give your partner / kids / executor a clear starting point
-
Keep things updated as life changes
It’s not a legal service and it doesn’t replace a will. It sits next to your legal documents and fills in the real-world gaps:
-
Which bank accounts exist
-
What super and insurance you have
-
Where the spare keys live
-
Who to call for the house, the pets, the accounts and the subscriptions
Why we care
Death, illness and separation are hard enough. The admin shouldn’t make it worse.
KinBox exists so that:
-
The people you love aren’t left guessing
-
You can feel quietly proud that you’ve “left things in good nick”
-
More Australian families get a plan, not a scavenger hunt
We’re glad you’ve found us, and we hope your KinBox gives you and your family a bit more peace of mind.
